Which plastics does PGS Plastik plate?
For plating on plastic we work with ABS; we injection-mould plating-grade natural ABS in-house and plate it. Our EU-funded SAMDOKAN project is nearing completion; it will allow ABS, ABS-PC, polyamide and polypropylene to be plated on the same line using pre-treatment chemistry that contains no chromic acid.
Which finishes do you offer?
Decorative chrome, satin nickel and satin chrome, and semi-bright and microporous nickel systems for automotive. The build-up layers are electroless nickel, matte nickel, acid copper and bright nickel.
How is chrome plated on plastic?
Plastic does not conduct electricity, so it is first made conductive: the ABS surface is etched in a chromic and sulphuric acid bath and activated with tin and palladium ions. Electroless nickel, acid copper, bright nickel and finally decorative chrome are then applied.
Do you also offer injection moulding?
Yes. On request we also injection-mould the parts to be plated. Five machines, including brands such as Arburg and KraussMaffei, produce the substrate in-house, so customers receive a finished part.
Which quality certificates do you hold and which tests do you run?
We are certified to IATF 16949:2016 and ISO 9001:2015. Our laboratory runs solution analysis, Hull-cell, Cross-cut, CASS-SST, Thermal Cycle, coating thickness and STEP, and micropore count tests.
